{"id":104567,"date":"2024-12-02T12:24:59","date_gmt":"2024-12-02T10:24:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=104567"},"modified":"2024-12-02T12:27:08","modified_gmt":"2024-12-02T10:27:08","slug":"64-of-companies-in-me-africa-adopt-gri-standards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/64-of-companies-in-me-africa-adopt-gri-standards\/","title":{"rendered":"64% of companies in ME&amp; Africa adopt GRI standards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/gri-climate-company-plan-for-event-on-challenges-opportunities-of-climate-reporting-during-cop29\/\">GRI<\/a> continues to be the most widely used by companies across all regions: Asia-Pacific (75%), Europe (71%), Americas (70%), and Middle East &amp; Africa (64%), according to the 2024 edition of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/kpmg.com\/xx\/en\/our-insights\/esg\/the-move-to-mandatory-reporting.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>KPMG Survey of Sustainability Reporting<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Companies obtaining independent sustainability assurance has risen to 54% in the N100, and 69% of the G250&nbsp; \u2013 reinforcing IFAC analysis that GRI reports are the most frequently assured, the report said.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Sustainability reporting around the world by major companies is now \u2018business as usual\u2019, with nine-in-ten of the companies that do report choosing to use the GRI Standards, according to a comprehensive new survey.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The report said that the countries with the highest GRI adoption rates by leading companies are Taiwan (100%), Singapore (97%), Spain, Japan and South Korea (all 94%).&nbsp;.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">&nbsp;There is growing application of \u2018double materiality\u2019 assessments, now undertaken by half of the G250, indicating an increased understanding of the need to disclose&nbsp;socio-environmental impacts in addition to financial risks and opportunities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">There are signs of early adoption of the newly available European Sustainability Reporting Standards, and the International Sustainability Standard Board\u2019s IFRS-S2, while voluntary practices led by the GRI Standards remain prevalent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It is hugely encouraging that a growing number of leading companies around the world \u2013 over 70% \u2013 are using the GRI Standards. Sustainability reporting is more relevant than ever. Understanding and disclosing material topics is a crucial step in developing a robust sustainability strategy, informing the wider business strategy and, of course, managing risks and unlocking value. It is also clear that the advent of new regulations and disclosure expectations, which the KPMG survey is starting to reflect, will further mainstream the practice of sustainability reporting. The good news for the thousands of GRI reporting companies is that they are well prepared to also apply other standards, and GRI will help them on their disclosure journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Cristina Gil White, Interim CEO of GRI<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The biannual KPMG research builds on recent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifac.org\/news-events\/2024-02\/sustainability-reporting-and-assurance-practices-largest-global-companies-continue-mature-ifac-aicpa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">analysis from the International Federation of Accountants<\/a>&nbsp;(IFAC) that the GRI usage rate among 1,400 leading companies is 77%, while&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wbcsd.org\/resources\/reporting-matters-2024-changing-gears\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WBCSD\u2019s Reporting Matters 2024<\/a>, published on 7 November, found 83% of 181 large companies assessed report with the GRI Standards.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">GRI provides training, services and support to help organizations on their sustainability reporting journey.
