{"id":102943,"date":"2024-10-21T19:56:23","date_gmt":"2024-10-21T16:56:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/?p=102943"},"modified":"2024-10-21T19:56:46","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T16:56:46","slug":"e380-m-allocated-to-133-new-projects-under-eus-life-program-for-environment-climate-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/csregypt.com\/en\/e380-m-allocated-to-133-new-projects-under-eus-life-program-for-environment-climate-action\/","title":{"rendered":"\u20ac380 m allocated to\u00a0133 new projects\u00a0under\u00a0EU\u2019s LIFE Program for environment, climate action"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The European Commission has granted today\u00a0more than \u20ac380 million to 133 new projects across Europe under the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.csregypt.com\/en\/eu-allocates-e396-m-for-171-new-projects-of-life-program-for-environment-climate-action\/\">LIFE Program for environment and climate action.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The allocated amount represents more than half of the \u20ac574 million total investment needs for these projects &#8211; the remainder coming from national, regional and local governments, public-private partnerships, businesses, and civil society organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">LIFE projects contribute to reaching the European Green Deal&#8217;s broad range of climate, energy and environmental goals, including the EU&#8217;s aim to become climate-neutral by 2050 and to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030, while ensuring Europe&#8217;s long-term prosperity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">This investment will have a lasting impact on the environment, the economy and the well-being of all Europeans. The projects will cover all areas of the LIFE program, mobilizing \u20ac143 million&nbsp;(of which the EU will provide \u20ac74 million) to contribute to&nbsp;circular economy and improving quality of life, with 26 projects reducing water use, industrial and household waste, air and noise pollution, as well as making the business case for reducing, reusing and recycling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Moreover, about&nbsp;\u20ac216 million&nbsp;(\u20ac144.5 million EU contribution)&nbsp;was earmarked for&nbsp;nature and biodiversity&nbsp;projects to restore freshwater, marine and coastal ecosystems, and habitats; and improve the conservation status of birds, insects, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Some&nbsp;\u20ac110 million&nbsp;(nearly \u20ac62 million EU contribution) was allocated for&nbsp;climate resilience,&nbsp;climate mitigation&nbsp;and&nbsp;governance and information in addition to \u20ac105 million&nbsp;(\u20ac99 million EU contribution) for governance and market solutions to accelerate the&nbsp;clean energy transition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Among the 26 projects selected to promote a more&nbsp;circular economy and quality of life, the \u20ac7.5 million project&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-ENV-IT-LIFE-GRAPhiREC-101147368\/waste-graphite-recycling-for-new-lithium-and-alkaline-batteries\">LIFE GRAPhiREC<\/a>&nbsp;aims at recycling graphite from battery waste in Italy. It is projected to generate \u20ac23.4 million in revenue and save \u20ac25 million in production costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Spanish project&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-ENV-ES-LIFE-POLITEX-101148221\/fibre-to-fibre-full-circularity-in-the-textile-sector-through-novel-polyester-recycling-technologies\">LIFE POLITEX<\/a>&nbsp;will invest \u20ac5 million in reducing the environmental footprint of the fashion industry by converting textile waste back into new textiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The \u20ac9.8 million\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-ENV-ES-DESALIFE-101147553\/desalination-for-environmental-sustainability-and-life\">DESALIFE<\/a>\u00a0project from the Canary Islands aims to support water resilience by producing fresh water from the Atlantic Ocean. Off-shore wave-powered buoys deployed off the Canary Islands will pump 1.7 billion liters of desalinated freshwater to shore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">25 projects will support&nbsp;nature and biodiversity&nbsp;in a wide range of areas. Two projects,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-NAT-LT-LIFE4AquaticWarbler-101148281\/conservation-of-europes-rarest-continental-passerine-a-transboundary-initiative-for-aquatic-warbler-population-recovery\">LIFE4AquaticWarbler<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-NAT-NL-LIFE-AWOM-101148382\/aquatic-warblers-on-the-move\">LIFE AWOM<\/a>, involve Belgium, Germany, Spain, France, Lithuania, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, as well as Ukraine and Senegal, with a combined budget of nearly \u20ac24 million to save the rare aquatic warbler bird, in line with the &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/environment.ec.europa.eu\/strategy\/biodiversity-strategy-2030_en#:~:text=The%20EU%27s%20biodiversity%20strategy%20for,contains%20specific%20actions%20and%20commitments.\">EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030<\/a>. Another example is&nbsp;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-NAT-HU-Biodiverse-City-LIFE-101148463\/restoration-of-grasslands-in-budapest-by-re-establishing-traditional-land-use-methods-surface-water-retentionand-community-driven-activities-in-favour-of-improved-urban-biodiversity-and-climate\">Biodiverse City LIFE<\/a>, a \u20ac3.6 million project in Budapest to promote the \u2018peaceful coexistence of nature and the urban lifestyle&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-CCA-IT-IMAGE-LIFE-101156343\/improving-the-resilience-of-parmigiano-reggiano-supply-chain-life\">IMAGE LIFE<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-CCA-FR-LIFE-VINOSHIELD-101158020\/protect-vines-against-climatic-variations\">LIFE VINOSHIELD<\/a>&nbsp;are part of the 23&nbsp;climate change resilience and mitigation&nbsp;projects announced today. With a combined budget of \u20ac6.8 million, the projects taking place in Spain, France and Italy will help world-renowned vineyards and the production of famous cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano, Camembert de Normandie, and Roquefort to become more resilient to the impact of extreme weather events. The projects showcase responses on how best Europe&#8217;s wider agricultural industry can adapt to climate change and water scarcity. Equally important is the \u20ac6.9 million&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-CCM-DE--LIFE-BLUE-420-kV-GIS-101157653\/emission-free-420-kv-gas-insulated-switchgear-combining-clean-air-insulation-and-vacuum-circuit-breaker-with-digital-low-power-instrument-transformer\">LIFE BLUE 420 kV GIS<\/a>&nbsp;project, taking place in Belgium, led by Siemens to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from electrical circuit breakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p dir=\"ltr\">To ensure a&nbsp;clean energy transition, as part of the 59 new projects announced today,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-CET-DiVIRTUE-101167587\/development-of-training-schemes-with-application-of-virtual-reality-towards-implementation-of-decarbonized-new-and-existing-buildings\">LIFE DiVirtue<\/a>, a three-year, \u20ac1.25 million digital training scheme will build capacity for a more efficient and innovative building and construction industry sector. The project notably uses virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) to help construction students and professionals deliver zero-emission buildings and renovations across Bulgaria, Czechia, Greece, Croatia and Romania. Meanwhile, with almost \u20ac 10 million, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/webgate.ec.europa.eu\/life\/publicWebsite\/project\/LIFE23-CET-ENERCOM-FACILITY-101167230\/european-energy-communities-facility\">ENERCOM FACILITY<\/a>&nbsp;project will provide direct grants to 140 emerging energy communities across Europe to trigger investments in sustainable energy.
