WHO: Dlrs 6 bn annual investments needed for global elimination of Hepatitis C by 2030

The World Health Organization said about dlrs 6 bn investments are needed annually for global elimination of Hepatitis Virus C by 2030. 

About 325 million people worldwide are suffering viral hepatitis B and C which cause 1.4 million deaths a year.

Hepatitis B and C viruses are the second major killer infectious disease after tuberculosis. Hepatitis is preventable, treatable, and in the case of hepatitis C, curable. However, over 80% of people living with hepatitis are lacking prevention, testing and treatment services.
On the 2019 World Hepatitis Day on July 28, WHO will urge all countries and partners to promote the theme “Invest in eliminating hepatitis”. WHO will release new estimates for additional investments needed to achieve globally agreed hepatitis elimination goals by 2030, in the context of the universal health coverage.
The host country for the World Hepatitis Day 2019 is Pakistan where global events will be held in Islamabad on July 27-28.
