Mir El Kheir Foundation said it will step up efforts in the coming period to continue serving the presidential initiative of “Decent Life.”
The initiative aims to alleviate people’s burdens, especially in rural and slum areas.
The initiative seeks to promote cooperation among the state, civil society organizations and the private sector to realize a quantum leap in poor people’s lives through securing a decent house for poor people as well as better health and educational services.
The initiative is also meant to support disabled persons and orphans.
The head of the all-out development sector of Misr El Kheir Foundation, Ali Fathi, underlined that the foundation will continue supporting “Decent Life” initiative, through training volunteers and examining households’ conditions.
The foundation also offers 20 percent financial contribution to the projects it is accomplishing under the initiative.
The first stage of initiative seeks to improve living conditions in villages where poverty rates exceeding 70 percent. The first stage targets 16 villages out of total 87 most needy villages. The initiative aims to develop a total 277 villages. The Upper Egypt governorate of Assuit comes at the top of the initiative’s agenda.
Misr El Kheir Foundation contributes to developing 13 villages out of total 25 targeted villages in the Upper Egypt governorates of Sohag, Luxor, Menya and Qena.
The initiative also underlines the importance of social protection of all people and securing job opportunities to help people improve their living conditions.
The Egyptian Planning Ministry announced on Tuesday that the state invested about EGP 1.3 billion in the most needy villages in five Egyptian governorates in 2018-2019.
About 2.5 million people in 158 villages benefited from the investments.
The 2017-2018 statistics showed that the Upper Egypt governorate of Assiut is the poorest governorate in Egypt, while Sohag comes in the second position with regard to poverty rates.
Egypt is striving to develop the most vulnerable villages in the country and build its infrastructure to encourage investments and boost its economy.
In a recent report, the Planning Ministry said about EGP 103 billion poured into “Decent Life” Initiative, which was launched by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi in March to secure a better life for the poor.
The Upper Egypt governorates got the lion’s share of the initiative’s investments, according the report.
