Swvl – an Egyptian ride-sharing company – joined hands with the Egyptian Clothing Bank to facilitate clothes donation via Swvl’s application.
Swvl clients can know the lines where they can deposit the donated clothes with the driver through the application, as the name of the Clothing Bank will appear on the application during the reservation.
As for companies’ lines, there will be an option for employees to donate during their trip.
Non-SWVL clients or those who are not planning to use SWVL soon can donate via fixed stations in Nasr City, Fifth Settlement, Smart Village, Heliopolis, Sixth of October, Mohandeseen, Maadi, Hadaeq el Ahram and Haram.
SWVL CEO Moustafa Qandil said SWVL as a socially responsible company is keen to play an effective social role, especially through alleviating the burdens of vulnerable people and entrenching the values of social solidarity.
He added that donations usually increase during the holy fasting month of Ramadan and donating clothes in this timing would be important to put a smile on poor people’s face with the advent of Eidul Fitr.
He added that some people find it difficult to donate to the Egyptian Clothing Bank because of the lack of time or distance in reaching the headquarters of the bank. Therefore, SWVL decided to act as a mediator between people and the bank as it has lines in various parts of Greater Cairo.
The Egyptian Clothing Bank is an NGO established in 2012 under ‘The Banks of Goodness’ with an aim to secure poor people’s basic needs of clothes and covers. The bank seeks to encourage support for underprivileged people. It receives in-kind donations that go into sorting, upcycling and recycling processes to ensure that the donations reach those who deserve.
