The fifth edition of the Marakez Pyramids Half Marathon became on the global running race calendar as the TriFactory – which organized the event – obtained earlier this year the AIMS (Association of International Marathons) certification for the Marakez Pyramids Half Marathon.
This further raised its profile and ensured all race results would be officially recognized by the World Athletics, the global running and athletics federation.
Moreover, the event is held under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi as the political leadership support places the health of Egyptian citizens at the forefront of government priorities during such events.
Egypt’s flagship road running event was held on Saturday at Egypt’s most famous historical destination and the world’s last remaining Wonder of the Ancient World: the Great Pyramids of Giza.
The Marakez Pyramids Half Marathon took thousands of runners on a tour of the Pyramids Complex, showcasing the three legendary pyramids of Pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure, as well as the six lesser ones built for their queens.
Inaugurated in 2019 with the attendance of Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth & Sports, Dr. Khaled El-Enany, Minister of Antiquities, and Dr. Rania Al-Mashaat, Minister of Tourism, the Pyramids Half Marathon proved to be a major local and international participation sports event, attracting thousands of participants and regularly welcoming runners from over 80 nationalities.
The TriFactory, Egypt’s leading organizer of mass participation sports events, is proud to announce that, for the second consecutive year, the Marakez Pyramids Half Marathon fell under the auspices of the Presidency of Egypt, as well as the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism & Antiquities, and the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority.
The race was technically supervised by the Egyptian Athletics Federation, ensuring that all distances were organized to exact international standards, in line with major running races across the world.
In addition to these significant public and international partnerships, the Marakez Pyramids Half Marathon boasted a wide selection of corporate partners, with PUMA, the international sports giant, being a chief among them. They provided an authentic race t-shirt for every single runner.
Other notable sponsors of the race included BP, Abu Auf, EvaPharma, and, of course, title sponsor Marakez, the Egyptian real estate developer.
Apart from welcoming runners from all over the world, the Marakez Pyramids Half Marathon was suitable for runners of all ages, with the 5K Fun Run welcoming runners as young as 10 years old, and runners as old as 80 participating in all three distances.
The Pyramids Half Marathon was a fun, challenging, and unforgettable #RaceThroughHistory, perfect for runners of all ages and abilities.
During the launch of the fifth edition of the Marakez Pyramids Half Marathon, the Minister of Youth and Sports expressed happiness, highlighting substantial growth in participant numbers and event activities. With over 4,000 participants and 82 nationalities, this year’s marathon offered various races, including 5km, 10km, and the challenging 21km.
Furthermore, the Ministry consistently strives to promote sports, broadening participation for the benefit of the Egyptian society. This effort positively contributes to integrating sports into the tourism sector, providing an opportunity to explore Egypt’s rich heritage in a vibrant atmosphere.
Moreover, the Minister underscored that political leadership support places the health of Egyptian citizens at the forefront of government priorities during such events.
“We intend for the Marakez Pyramids Half Marathon to become the MENA region’s most important running event, and the past several editions have proven its potential to do so,” said Ayman Hakky, Founder & CEO of The TriFactory. “On a national level, the Marakez Pyramids Half Marathon is one of the key sporting events that take place every year in Egypt and a major proponent of both sports tourism and nation-branding. We are very proud to have received the official AIMS certification for the race and look forward to the years to come.”
