Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli inspected on Saturday a new production line of Chipsy for Foods Industries factory – an affiliate to PepsiCo Egypt – in the Sixth of October city as PepsiCo Egypt expands its investments in Egypt.
PepsiCo Egypt is applying the concept of sustainability in all stages of its investments starting from production components, manufacturing to marketing, the company’s board chairman said.
During the tour, Madbouli was accompanied by Trade and Industry Minister Ahmed Samir, Giza Governor Ahmed Rashed, CEO of the the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) Hossam Heiba and Board Chairman of PepsiCo North Africa Mohamed Shelbaya.
The premier stressed the government’s support for expanding the factory’s activities, boosting production, and creating jobs.
Shelbaya sensitized the premier to the factory’s dependence on modern technology as well as quality monitoring systems.
He added that the new production line is part of the company’s expansion strategy in Egypt, highlighting the company’s interested in injecting more investments to buttress the Egyptian economy and applying the concept of sustainability in all stages of the company’s investment starting from production components to marketing.
He said the total investments pumped into the new production line amount to dlrs 20 million with an annual production capacity of 25,000 tons.
He said the factory exports its products to 11 African and Asian countries, noting that about 680 employees are working in the factory.
He noted that PepsiCo considers the Egyptian market as one of the most important strategic markets having rich development opportunities; therefore it is attractive to investors, referring also to its distinguished location and large population.
Shelbaya highlighted the company’s deeply-rooted relations with the Egyptian market that date back to over 70 years ago.
He added that PepsiCo has about nine factories in various parts of the country with over 14000 permanent and temporary employees.
He said the Chipsy plant in the Sixth of October city is one of the oldest Chipsy factories. The 110,000-square meter factory was built in 1991.
He noted that the factory includes nine production lines for potato chips, tortilla chips, and products derived from corn.
