Nine Egyptian universities on 2021 QS World University Rankings

Nine Egyptian universities were included on the 2021 QS World University Rankings which was issued in April 2021. The rankings list includes the top 1,000 universities from around the world, covering 80 different locations.

There are 47 new entrants in this year’s top 1,000 while over 5,500 universities were evaluated and considered for inclusion.

While the Massachusetts Institute for Technology (MIT) continues its record-breaking streak at number one – the ninth year in a row it’s achieved this feat – the big story this year is the impressive gains made by Asian universities. 26 institutions from the continent now feature in the global top 100, more than ever before. This year’s rankings are launched at a challenging time for the whole world, with COVID-19 impacting universities and students alike.

The QS World University Rankings continue to enjoy a remarkably consistent methodological framework, compiled using six simple metrics; namely academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international faculty ratio, and international student ratio

The nine Egyptian universities on the list are the American University in Cairo, Cairo University, Ain Shams University, Alexandria University, Al-Azhar University, Assiut University, German University in Cairo, Helwan University and Mansoura University.

There are also eleven Saudi universities on the list, including King Abdulaziz University (KAU), King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals, King Saud University, Umm Al-Qura University, Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal University (IAU), King Khalid University, Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd University, Islamic University of Madinah, King Faisal University, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University, and Al Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University.

The UAE has the same number of Egyptian universities on the list, including Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Khalifa University of Science and Technology, United Arab Emirates University, American University of Sharjah, American University in Dubai, University of Sharjah, Abu Dhabi University, Ajman University, and Zayed University.

There are also seven Lebanese universities on the list; namely the American University of Beirut (AUB), University of Balamand, Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), Holy Spirit University of Kaslik, Lebanese University, Notre Dame University-Louaize (NDU), and Beirut Arab University.

There are five Jordanian and Iraqi universities on the list.

The listed Jordanian universities comprised the University of Jordan, Jordan University of Science & Technology, German Jordanian University, Princess Sumaya University for Technology, and Yarmouk University.

The Iraqi universities on the list included the University of Baghdad, University of Kufa, Mustansiriyah University, University of Babylon, and University of Basrah.

The list also included two Kuwaiti universities; the Gulf University for Science and Technology and the Kuwait University.

The list also included the University of Bahrain, Damascus University of Syria, Sultan Qaboos University of Oman, Qatar University and Université Mohammed V de Rabat of Morocco.
