The Housing and Development Bank (HDB) honored top students of high and vocational schools as well as top blind students in 2018-2019 during a ceremony attended by Education Minister Traeq Shawqy.
Shawqy commended the key social role played by the bank which is keen on contributing to social development, especially in the educational score, adding that education is the mainstay for societies’ development.
Meanwhile, the bank’s Board Chairman Fathi Sebaei – who attended the ceremony – said the honoring ceremony falls within the framework of the bank’s social responsibility role to support and encourage excellent students to exert more efforts and realize more success.
He stressed the bank’s strong belief in the pivotal role of financial and banking institutions in serving society.
He noted that there is continued and fruitful cooperation between the bank and the Education Ministry, referring to the National Project for Saving for Future Apartment which aimed at getting the school community to be aware of the housing problem and spreading awareness among students about the culture of saving money. The bank has developed a special saving mechanism for students who are allowed under this system to participate in periodical draws for apartments or down payment for getting housing units.
The bank’s honoring of the top students is part of an initiative launched in 2014-2015 to offer psychological and financial support for distinguished students, he said, underscoring the bank’s keenness on pursuing the march of cooperating with the Education Ministry and supporting youth.
Deputy Board Chairman Hassan Ghanem accentuated the bank seeks to provide all needed support for students in all educational stages, noting that the number of honored top students reached about 34 this year against 14 students in 2014-2015.
The award is one thousand pounds and a laptop for each, he said, noting that the financial support would go on during school years alongside internet subscription for excellent student.
Coordination is underway with the Education Ministry to hold a ceremony for honoring about 27 students from preparatory schools in order to encourage them to study more and achieve more success.
