The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Academy has launched a training portal to improve access to high quality learning opportunities for people working in sustainability and sustainable development roles.
Training through the GRI Academy will enable sustainability professionals to maintain, upskill and appraise their learning and be recognized for their knowledge of sustainability reporting through the GRI Standards.
The GRI Academy is a global online platform that offers courses and tutorials on how organizations can communicate their impacts on the economy, environment and society through the GRI Standards – the world’s most widely used sustainability reporting framework.
The initial course available through the GRI Academy is introduction to sustainability reporting and the GRI Standards. This training is open to those that are new to sustainability reporting or seeking to broaden their understanding of the subject.
In four modules, inclusive of practical self-assessment, the course covers how to define sustainability through a holistic and multi-dimensional approach; defining sustainability challenges and explaining how reporting contributes to sustainable development; the key elements of a sustainability report and the value and benefits of disclosure; and understanding the concepts, features and structure of the GRI Standards.
Additional content will be launched on the GRI Academy later this year, building up a full sustainability curriculum that offers globally applicable professional development. This will be delivered together with GRI’s network of Certified Training Partners and include a certification exam.
Shivani Rajpal, GRI Director of Training and Services, said “At GRI, we are fully committed to providing the tools and resources that help organizations use sustainability reporting to improve business practices and contribute towards sustainable development. The GRI Academy will equip sustainability professionals with relevant and practical insights on how to use the GRI Standards to support these aims.”
“With user-friendly and accessible content, delivered online and though our Certified Training Partners, people from around the world can keep up to speed with global best practice in sustainability reporting. We are highly ambitious for the GRI Academy and look forward to growing the platform further over the months to come.”
