Mogtama3i Tech forum – the first regional event under the theme of “Technology Serving the Community” – honored icons of corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Mogtama3i Tech opened at the Cairo Opera House on Tuesday under the patronage of the Egyptian Ministries of Culture, Environment, Social Solidarity, Planning, and Finance as well as the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) and the Universal Health Insurance Authority Egypt (UHIA).
The event was organized in tandem with the United Nations agencies; the International Organization for Migration, United Nations Volunteers, and the United Nations Development Program.
Dr. Randa Rizk, Secretary General of the Arab Council for Social Responsibility (ACSR), said the forum falls within the framework of the council’s vision to achieve more economic and social empowerment for various social categories, especially women, youths, disabled persons and marginalized strata.
The council seeks also to create decent jobs for such social categories through localizing technology, she said, noting that this goes in line with the directives of the political leadership which exerts great efforts to improve people’s living conditions and achieve Egypt Vision 2030.
ACSR Assistant Secretary Mohamed Azzam said the forum addresses several important issues to shed light on the efforts exerted by the Egyptian state vis-à-vis several files, topped by financial technology to serve society through achieving financial inclusion and merging small businesses into a bigger economic mechanism.
The forum also tackles the future of the health mechanism in view of accelerating technological development and the coronavirus pandemic.
It also reviews needed technology for serving society, G4 learning, development investments and job creation.
The forum is due to issue “Cairo Declaration” – under the title Technology for Serving Community – to highlight the recommendations made by over 80 speakers of state leaderships, UN organizations and international companies and experts.
These recommendations are expected to be turned into viable initiatives and projects contributing to further localizing up-to-date technology for more productive communities.
This would help achieve economic growth and social justice in accordance with Egypt Vision 2030.
Rowad 2030 of the Egyptian Ministry of Planning and Economic Development was named as the best project under the Arab award for technology serving the community.
Planning Minister Hala Saeed said the ministry’s launch of the Rowad 2030 was meant to underline the importance of spreading the culture of entrepreneurship among youths, who represent the largest segment of society.
She noted that several cooperation protocols were signed with the universities of Cambridge, Cairo, the American University and the German University in Cairo. This has helped many youths to get scholarships and MA degrees in the entrepreneurship domain.
She said this came within the framework of efforts develop youth capabilities and skills to turn their ideas into projects, thus contributing to economic growth and creating job opportunities.
Moreover, several business incubators were established, especially in the fields of artificial intelligence and tourism, she said, noting that a training program was launched in tandem with the American University to raise the efficiency of incubator managers in accordance with international standards.
During the forum, ACSR Secretary General Rizk said AstraZeneca Egypt was named among the winners of the Arab Imtiaz Award – an annual Arab Award for Community Service – for its pioneering role in serving the Egyptian community’s development through its various programs.
For her part, Vivian Fikry, Head of Communications and Corporate Responsibility, AstraZeneca Egypt, said the company is keen on participating in important events, like Mogtama3i Tech, to share its key CSR programs aiming at serving the Sustainable Development Goals.
She highlighted the company’s pivotal CSR role, referring to several initiatives launched by the company, including the Young Health Program which aims at spreading awareness among youths about means of protection from chronic non-communicable diseases.
Meanwhile, Board Chairman of AstraZeneca Egypt Hatem Wardani – who attended the event – said the company always works with success partners to improve healthcare services in Egypt in line with Egypt Vision 2030.
He said the company’s role is not confined to securing medicine; it extends to offering all-out healthcare services.
He cited the company’s efforts to realize comprehensive healthcare and promote the role of technology in serving society, particularly depending on AI for early detection of lung cancer in addition to social awareness campaigns in tandem with the National Cancer Institute of Egypt.
As for securing up-to-date medicine for Egyptian patients, he announced the launch of about 20 new medicines within the coming four years, once obtaining the health authorities’ approval.
He hailed the role of the Health Ministry and the Egyptian Drug Authority for registering innovative medicine in Egypt.
As for offering online healthcare services across Egypt, he referred to the launch of 7keema mobile application.
He added that the company is set to launch e-clinics – a mega digital health project to follow-up patients’ conditions via a safe internet platform.
The forum is meant to encourage more companies to make use of modern technology to serve communities, thus promoting CSR and contributing the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
