The Waste Management Regulatory Authority (WMRA) under the Egyptian Ministry of Environment has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) UAE’s Tadweer Group, marking a significant step towards advancing waste management practices and strengthening regional collaboration in environmental sustainability. This partnership aims to promote investment opportunities and facilitate the exchange of expertise and knowledge between the two organizations.
Ali Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of Tadweer Group, said “This partnership with the Egyptian Waste Management Regulatory Authority marks a significant step towards enhancing energy production and promoting circular economy principles. Through knowledge exchange and collaborative studies, we aim to accelerate the adoption of innovative waste practices. This partnership not only reinforces our commitment to pioneering waste management solutions in the region but also embodies our shared vision for sustainability and environmental stewardship for years to come.”
The MoU outlined several areas for collaboration, including the identification of investment prospects within the waste sector, the exchange of comprehensive research and studies, and bolstering mutual cooperation. Furthermore, the agreement prioritized capacity building and the promotion of awareness within the recycling.
This agreement signified the beginning of a promising trajectory towards regional advancements in waste management, while simultaneously reflecting the partners’ commitment to developing sustainable and innovative solutions.
Egyptian Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad asserted that the MoU was meant to explore available investment opportunities and partnerships between the private and public sectors in addition to exchanging expertise and knowledge in the field of recycling and waste management, according to the cabinet.
The minister said the proposed investments comprised a number of fields, including agricultural waste through establishing a factory for recycling palm frond waste in the New Valley governorate to manufacture MDF wood, in coordination with the Arab Organization for Industrialization, the New Valley Governorate, and the WMRA, with an investment value of up to 70 million euros.
The Minister of Environment continued that the proposed investment opportunities also included cooperation in the field of used oils in manufacturing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at 530 million euros. This would be in coordination with the Egyptian Petrochemicals Company.
