Egypt – represented in the Egyptian Electricity Holding Co. – signed two cooperation deals with General Electric Gas Power to promote efforts for decarbonizing the energy sector in Egypt.
Chairman of the Egyptian Electricity Holding Co. Gaber Desoki signed a memo with President and CEO of the GE Gas Power Europe, Middle East & Africa Joseph Anis, while the two sides signed another deal with CEO of Nasr General Contracting Co. Mohamed Yousef Dahshouri and CEO of Power Generation Engineering & Service Co. (PGESCO) Ahmed Ramadan.
The two agreements fall within the framework of Egypt’s preparations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27).
On the sidelines of the inking ceremony, Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli underlined the political leadership’s interest in addressing the environment and climate change files.
He underlined the state’s keenness on developing polities and strategies to expand use of green energy and using up-to-date technology for cutting greenhouse gas emissions.
He referred to the launch of the national strategy for climate change in coincidence with preparations fo the COP27 in Sharm El Sheikh in November.
He added that foreign investments and the private sector’s contributions will be effective in promoting efforts addressing climate change.
For his part, Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said electricity and energy sectors are the most vital sectors which operate under strategic plans aiming at curbing carbon emissions and protecting the environment, especially through expanding renewable energy projects.
President & CEO, Europe, Middle East & Africa, GE Gas Power Joseph Anis commended the major steps taken by the Egyptian government to build a more sustainable future.
He added that the company as a leading energy firm is taking proactive actions to contribute to decarbonizing the energy sector, stressing commitment to close cooperation with the Egyptian government as well as other partners in Egypt and worldwide to confront climate challenges and meet growing energy needs around the world.
For his part, CEO of Nasr General Contracting Co. Mohamed Yousef Dahshouri said the deal goes in line with the company’s strategy, noting that the company has expanded eco-friendly projects which back the Egyptian state’s vision 2050 and the strategic plans for cutting carbon emissions.
CEO of Power Generation Engineering & Service Co. (PGESCO) Ahmed Ramadan said the company is aware of effective contribution to the Egyptian state’s efforts to achieve the national goals and commitment to the United Nations framework convention to climate change.
Egypt is taking major strides towards cutting greenhouse gas emissions within the context of the international drive to save the planet.
