Egypt seeks international licensing of its recycled products in order to open vistas for exportation in addition to promoting efforts to protect resources and realize sustainability.
Egyptian Minister Yasmine Fouad will discuss with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) the mechanism involved in this respect, noting that a database will be secured about those working in the recycling domain and seeking to export these products.
She said the Waste Management Regulatory Authority is the sole body in charge of licensing any recycled products inside Egypt in accordance with the waste law.
The minister underlined the importance of protecting resources and recycling various products, such as textiles and leather, in collaborating with environmental work partners, in order to activate sustainability concepts and promote the culture of social responsibility for products.
She hailed ongoing efforts to proceed with the “From Waste to Good Taste” initiative for spreading the culture of recycling, stressing the ministry’s preparedness to support propaganda on the culture of sustainability.
Fouad said the culture of the society cannot change only through the government and the state, but also through people’s belief in innovative ideas and working on eco-friendly projects.
She said the initiative – which was launched in January 2023 – aims also creating green and non-traditional jobs for youths.
She made the remarks during a meeting with CEO of Egyptian Clothing Bank Manal Saleh.
The meeting tackled a host of issues on sustainability in various sectors and means of promoting the culture of recycling at the local and international levels.
Fouad underlined her appreciation for the efforts being exerted by the Egyptian Clothing Bank in enhancing the culture of protecting the environment and natural resources.
Meanwhile, Saleh thanked Fouad for sponsoring innovative projects and enhancing the Egyptian Clothing Bank in recycling cloth and textile waste to turn into sustainable and beneficial products.
