The Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh launched the first solar power station in its resorts using up-to-date international technology.
The new solar station – which was set up in one of the resorts owned by business mogul Kamel Abu Ali – is the first station in Sharm El Sheikh resorts to produce one megawatt, or 1,000 kilowatts, with an annual production of 2000 megawatt hours, or two million kilowatt hours annually.
Abu Ali said the establishment of the solar station in Sharm El Sheikh goes in line with the state’s preparations for hosting the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in November.
He said this would contribute to presenting Sharm El Sheikh at the international event in its best and civilized image in addition to bringing to limelight the state’s potentials in organizing international events.
He added that all these efforts come in implementation of directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi with regard to high-level preparations for the COP27.
The station is considered one of the most important steps towards achieving sustainable development in Sharm El Sheikh city which have about 2,500 solar panels on rooftops of the resort buildings. The station is connected through number one power transformers.
