CSR Egypt CEO Hassan Moustafa said development in the current era can only be achieved by applying environmental and social sustainability.
He expounded that development standards in the past focused mainly on the economic perspective alongside some social protection considerations.
He made the remarks on Monday during the 4th Forum on Strategies for Transition to Green Economy which kicked off in Cairo under the theme of “From Vision to Implementation.”
During the CSR-organized event, he said the planet is facing many challenges in the current times.
He noted that Egypt has been interested in addressing climate change since 1956, adding that the current efforts are not new for the Egyptian government and companies supporting this file since 1970s.
Moustafa underlined the pivotal role played by the private sector as it effectively collaborated with the Egyptian state and this was reflected in the leap realized in the sustainable development file within three years.
He referred to social development initiatives that were launched, including a boats overture for creating jobs for fishermen and improving their living conditions.
He added that the environmental dimension is a main part of all initiatives launched in tandem with development partners, such as Sona3 El Kheir Foundation.
He stressed that Egypt’s hosting of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) represents a major opportunity for serving the sustainable development goals.
He commended the role played by the Social Solidarity Ministry – under Nivine Kabbaj – in nurturing any idea that can serve the nation.
He also added that Egypt has a civil community that works hard to meet the needs of most needy segments.
