Creatives are vying to show off their artistic flair in a competition launched by the UAE to select the best three designs of the drinking fountains across Expo 2020 site. The deadline for applying to the contest is August 31.
The Sabeel 2020 fountains will quench the thirst of visitors of Expo 2020, thus reflecting the UAE’s spirit of hospitality and its thriving creative community. The sabeels will also live on post-Expo as part of the future city of District 2020.
Sabeel 2020 is a program that sets out to produce uniquely and innovatively designed drinking water fountains for the Expo 2020 Dubai site and its legacy. It offers a chance to build new creative collaborations and concepts, and further serves to provide major opportunities for the UAE creative sector.
Up to three winning designs will be selected by a jury that includes Marjan Faraidooni, Chief Pavilions and Exhibitions Officer at Expo 2020 Dubai, before being developed and reproduced throughout the Expo site. Each winner will also receive AED 100,000 in prize money.
Sabeel 2020 contest is arranged in collaboration with Dubai-based Art Jameel, an organization that supports heritage, education and the arts.
The contest draws upon Expo 2020’s theme of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ as well as its subthemes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability. It also supports the #Hayyakum2020 program by spreading excitement and pride throughout the nation ahead of the largest event ever staged in the Arab world.
Expo 2020 is set to welcome 192 participating countries and millions of visitors from across the globe. Visitors will experience warm Emirati hospitality at its finest, as well as the UAE’s values of inclusion, tolerance and cooperation. Youth are at the heart of the expo. That’s why Expo 2020 aspires to create a meaningful legacy that will benefit generations to come, both locally and globally, spanning everything from innovations and architecture to friendships and business opportunities.
