Ghada Makady, Regional Director of Public Affairs and Communications of Coca Cola in Egypt, Libya, Yemen, Sudan and South Sudan, said the company contributed to developing 100 villages in Egypt within the framework of the presidential Decent Life Initiative.
She made the remarks during a session under the theme of one goal and one world “Sustainable Development Goals from adoption to application”. The session – moderated by Founder and CEO of CSR Arabia Hassan Moustafa – was held within the framework of the Arab Sustainable Development Week which was organized by the Arab League, the Ministry of Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform and the United Nations Development Program.
She noted that the company focuses on profits, planet and people, noting that sustainable development progress can never be estimated in view of economic profits, economic growth or gross domestic product.
She said China managed to attain several Sustainable Development Goals over the past three years, citing also the progress realized by Russia and Costa Rica with regard to SDGs.
She highlighted the importance of taking into consideration the humanitarian and cultural perspectives while implementing the SDGs.
She also called for promoting companies roles and team work to accomplish SDGs.
Coca Cola has accomplished several sustainable development projects in Egypt. The company empowered about 25,000 women economically within the framework of its international program “5by20” which offers a chance for women to attend training sessions to hone their skills in the fields of trade and financial services. The company also overhauled 46 schools and 32 medical centers.
Coca-Cola campaigns have always underlined the importance of social development and helping others.
Coca-Cola has also launched a campaign to activate domestic tourism in Egypt through replacing the company’s logo with images of the most beautiful cities in Egypt.
Coca-Cola – which joined the Egyptian market in 1942 – has eight factories in Egypt, securing about 100,000 jobs.
