Carrefour is committed to fighting deforestation linked to commodity supply chains and has pledged to support the Consumer Goods Forum’s goal of zero deforestation. The group has set a target of 100% of priority raw materials committing to a risk reduction plan by 2025.
To implement this commitment, Carrefour is taking action in its own supply chains by putting in place guarantees aimed at combating deforestation – certification, geo-monitoring, traceability to ensure that raw materials come from areas not affected by deforestation.
Nevertheless, the fight against deforestation requires a global collaboration of all actors. For this reason, Carrefour supports the implementation of a European framework to fight against legal and illegal deforestation and would like to see the broadest engagement of all actors – importers, development agencies, NGOs, processors, industrialists, investors, governments – in the fight against deforestation.
Carrefour shares its position through its support of the collective position paper on EU action to protect and restore the world’s forests: Proposal for a ‘smart mix’ of measures.
Carrefour also promotes business leaders support bold EU actions to eliminate imported deforestation.
It also enhances the statement of support from businesses for an effective EU law to halt the trade in commodities and products linked to deforestation and conversion.
