Carrefour announced the launch of the European Food Transition Awards first edition. This competition will reward the most virtuous suppliers in terms of CSR according to customers.
The European Food Transition Awards are an online competition between the main global and local Carrefour suppliers within the Group’s six European countries: France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Romania and Poland. Selected by customer votes, the most emblematic products of the food transition will be rewarded during an awards ceremony on December 1st, hosted by Carrefour CEO Alexandre Bompard.
A pioneer in large-scale retailing and the first to have made the food transition central to its purpose, Carrefour wants to showcase the national brands that are making their products more sustainable and healthier for customers.
This competition is a part of the Food Transition Pact, a reciprocal commitment endorsed in 2019 between Carrefour and its partner suppliers.
The selected products have been submitted by suppliers after Carrefour launched a call for projects this summer. They are divided into four key themes of Transition Food: healthy products, packaging, climate and biodiversity.
9 European prizes corresponding to 9 categories of products will be awarded as well as a national prize for each of the 6 countries which participates in the operation.
European customers vote to elect the 3 best products in each category on a dedicated online platform. Winners will be selected in November by a jury comprised of 10 international CSR experts.
The winning products will get significant exposure in Carrefour’s catalogue for a year, and be showcased in stores and online during Carrefour’s Food Transition Week.
