“Athar” Award for best practices in development work, sustainable development launched under patronage of 3 ministries

“Athar Award” (or Impact Award) for the best practices in the field of development work and sustainable development was launched on Thursday under the patronage of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation, Ministry of Social Solidarity and Ministry of Environment.

The award is offered by the annual Forum of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development in Egypt (Egypt CSR Forum) with the aim of honoring pioneering companies and institutions in the fields of sustainability and social work as well as those having inspiring and impactful stories who managed to realize a positive and tangible effect in the march of development in Egypt and the Arab world.

The award falls within the framework of propping up the efforts exerted by the business community and civil society to achieve Egypt Vision 2030 and provide decent life for Egyptian citizens.

Prominent public figures, representatives of ministries and governmental agencies attended the honoring ceremony alongside business leaders, executive directors of major international and local companies, and media.

The ceremony was sponsored by Attijariwafa Bank Egypt and Canal Sugar Company.

The list of “Athar Award” honorees included Ambassador Hisham Badr, the National Coordinator of the National Initiative for Green & Smart Projects and the General Supervisor of the Award for Excellence of the Egyptian Government, as representative of the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development and International Cooperation.

Advisor of the Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Ghada Tawfik was among the winners along with CSR Advisor of Chairman of the Financial Regulatory Authority (FRA) Lamise Negm, Deputy head of Technical Secretariat of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work Hatem Metwally, and Director of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation Department at the League of Arab States Minister Plenipotentiary Nada El Agizy.

Under the category of Development Work Icons, Chairman of Food Bank Egypt Niazy Sallam and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of October University for Modern Sciences and Arts Nawal El Degwi were honored.

Under the CEO awards category for the most effective companies in the field of sustainability and development work, Attijariwafa Bank Egypt was honored with the award handed over to its Managing Director Mouawia Essekelli along with Nestlé Egypt with the prize received by CEO Tarek Kamel.

Unilever was also honored with the award obtained by the company’s Regional Head of North Africa Eastern Mediterranean Region Cem Tarık Yüksel along with PepsiCo Egypt with the award handed over to Board Chairman and Managing Director Karim Khedr and Beyti with the prize copped by General Manager Chris Abboud.

Under this category, the winners also included L’Oréal Egypt with the award received by General Manager Mohamed El Araby, Microsoft Egypt with the prize handed over to General Manager Mirna Arif.

Redcon Group Board Chairman Tarek El Gamal was also honored for his company’s winning alongside CEO of Canal Sugar Company Kamel Abdallah and Lafarge Egypt CEO Khaled Dokani.

Under the category of the most impactful institutions in social development, the honorees included Misr El Kheir Foundation with the award received by CEO  Mohamed Refai, Baheya Foundation with the award delivered to Board of Trustees member Laila Salem,  Hayah Karima Foundation with the award handed over to Board of Trustees Chairperson Ohoud Wafi and the foundation’s spokesperson Buthaina Mustafa, and Sonaa El Kheir Foundation with the award received by its Chairman Dr. Mostafa Zamzam.

The winners under this category also included Orman Association with the award handed over to CEO Mahmoud Fouad, Youth Leaders Foundation (YLF) with the award delivered to Board of Trustees chairman MP Ahmed Fathy and El Garhy Foundation for Community Development with the award copped by CEO MP Mohamed El Garhy.

Under the category of the fastest-growing and most innovative companies, the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) was named among the winners with the award handed over to Head of the NBE Marketing & Social Development Dina Abou Taleb.

The winners under this category also comprised Commercial International Bank Egypt (CIB) with the award received by Head of the bank’s Chief Sustainability Officer Dr. Dalia Abdel Kader, Elsewedy Electric with the award copped by Chief Sustainability Officer and VP Elsewedy Electric Foundation Manal Hassan, Vodafone Egypt with the prize garnered by Purpose and Sustainable Business Senior Manager Yasmine Dessouky.

Telecom Egypt (WE) was also honored with the prize obtained by Director of Communications & Corporate Social Responsibility Maya Naguib as well as e& Egypt with the award copped by its Brand, Marketing Communication, Corporate Reputation & Research Director Ahmed Imbabi, Sanofi Egypt with the prize garnered by Head of Communications and CSR Ghada Michel and Banque du Caire with handed over to Head of CSR & Sustainable Development TamerTobgi.

Moreover, Taqa Arabia was among the awardees with the prize copped by Sustainability Director Sherif Mubarak alongside Innovo with the award garnered by Managing Director Mohamed Gamal, Nahdet Misr Publishing House with the prize obtained by Board Chairperson Dr Dalia Ibrahim and B.TECH with the award handed over to Head of Public Relations, Media, and CSR Khadeeja Maktabi.

Also, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB BANK) was honored with the award garnered to Chief Corporate Governance Officer Ahmed Mamdouh Hassan in addition to Credit Agricole with the prize copped by General Counsel & Corporate Secretary Hala Ragab, and Geocycle Egypt with the award handed over to General Manager Adham El-Mahdi.

The United Bank was also among the winners of the award which was handed over to CSR Head Gehane Abou Hussein alongside Talabat whose  Head of Communications, Public Affairs & Sustainability Maha Saleh obtained the award.

The Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB) copped the Athar award which was garnered by Head of Corporate Communication and Marketing Enas Kadry.

Qalaa Holdings was also granted the award which was handed over to Chief Sustainability and Marketing Officer Ghada Hammouda.

Samsung was also honored with the award copped by Chief Marketing Officer Ahmad Gaafar alongside Beko Egypt whose Marketing Head Omar Badrawi obtained the prize, Fine with the award delivered to QA/QC Manager Alaa Tohamy, and Tabarak Holding with the prize garnered by Chairman Ali El Shorbany.

Under the category of companies most supportive for applying sustainability standards, Finance in Motion was named among the winners with the award obtained by Country Head of Egypt & Yemen Mohamed Morsi, the Egyptian Carbon Footprint Center whose CEO & Founder Dr. Omar Ghali received the award.

D Carbon won the award which was delivered to CEO Dr. Ehab Shalaby as well as Integral whose Chairman copped the award.

Moreover, Strategic Gears was also among the winners with the award handed over to Country Manager Seif Abdulmaguid, along with the United Accountants with the prize delivered to CEO & Managing Partner Haytham Torkey and GIZ with the award received by Head of Private Sector Development of GIZ Egypt Andreas Ruepp. 

Under the category of companies most supportive for social entrepreneurship, Co-founder and CEO of Exits Eng. Mohamed Nagaty was honored alongside Ahmed Rashad, Founder of Business Bel Arabi platform, and Bassem El Shanwany, Chairman of Egyptian Junior Business Association (EJB), 

Moreover, POD Egypt was honored with the award handed over to Deputy General Manager PR & Events Mai Mohsen and The PROs with the prized obtained by Media Relations Director Hana Taha.

Delivering a speech during the Athar Award event, Hassan Moustafa, Chairman of the annual Forum of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development in Egypt (Egypt CSR Forum), said the “Athar Award” is an interactive event aimed at encouraging the business community and civil society to cherish their contributions to serving the Egyptian community and supporting national plans to realize comprehensive sustainable development, and ensure sustainable growth in order to positively affect citizens’ lives to enjoy decent life.

He asserted that the award was granted to the winners in recognition of their active role and efforts to realize a quantum leap and real change in people’s lives.

He added that the award crowned their achievements that contributed to entrenching sustainability, propelling the march of development, and creating a sustainable developmental impact that positively affects the future of the coming generations.

Moustafa added that the award will continue to be held annually under transparent and integral rules and principles for selecting the winners.

He expounded that this will pave the ground for turning the prize into a regional award in order to promote social responsibility, encourage more companies and individuals to engage in community projects, propagate successful initiatives, highlight inspiring stories to motivate others, and incentivize positive change.

Moreover, it aims to bring to limelight influential icons in disseminating the culture of sustainability and developmental work, and encouraging more stakeholders to get engaged in the development drive.

The “Athar Award” is launched under the patronage of the administration of the annual Egypt CSR Forum which first mooted in 2014.
