Director of the Sustainable Development and International Cooperation Department of the Arab League Nada El Agizy said corporate social responsibility (CSR) represents a model of sustainable partnership.
She highlighted that owners of commercial shops should be committed to CSR in order to achieve sustainable development.
She made the remarks on Monday during the 10th annual Forum for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Development – known as CSR Forum – which was held under the theme of “Responsible Investment Gate for Recovering and Overcoming Crises.”
Agizy said development projects play a major role at the economic, social and environmental levels, noting that securing needed finance is the main obstacle hampering development projects.
She called for focusing on the role of national institutions and promoting Arab integration in order to secure needed funds, database and national development maps as well as upgrading marketing mechanism.
She added that partnership with civil community plays a vital role in achieving sustainable development and securing countries needs, especially countries suffering from wars and conflicts.
She expounded that the coronavirus pandemic contributed to giving momentum to the role of civil society organizations and the private sector in order to surpass the crisis.
She underscored the important role of media in instilling the principles of sustainable development and disseminating the concepts of social work and CSR.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Insurance Federation of Egypt Alaa El Zoheiri said social and economic insurance is an added value, expounding that insurance helps to avoid risks and comes up with innovative solutions.
He added that the insurance principles are meant to offer support in the face of the challenges besetting sustainability as well as natural disasters and climate change.
He noted that the federation worked with mega companies on establishing a complex for confronting drought risks,
The complex offers insurance incentives for new products that take into consideration the environmental dimension in addition to encouraging offering insurance products for small and medium sized enterprises and new products for limited-income segments.
For his part, Chairperson of the Egyptian Junior Business Association (EJB) Sherif El-Gabali highlighted the importance of partnership between the government, private sector and civil society in CSR and sustainable development projects in order to realize development.
He called for boosting investment in education in order to sensitize the coming generations of the steps and goals of sustainable development.
