The Annual Africa ESG, Impact Investing & Sustainable Finance Summit-East Africa Forum – due to kick off on February 27-28 in the Kenyan capital Nairobi – comes this year in the backdrop of the 27th United Nations Climate Change (COP27) which was held in Egypt in November 2022.
The summit’s forums will address critical and necessary interventions that Governments, investors, financial intermediaries, asset owners, development and donor agencies, asset managers, regulators and policy makers, and the private sector in general will need to deploy towards achieving the UN sustainable development goals as well as to mitigate against climate related risks.
The summit will also explore the role of Institutional Investors, Financial services providers, Foundations, and charities as well as regulators, asset owners and managers in impact investing across the African continent.
The summit will examine critical approaches and strategies towards climate action and social impact.
The summit seeks to address climate related risks, promote sustainable finance, explore investment opportunities within impact investing and sustainable finance in the region, and drive impact investing within key sectors such as renewable energy, conservation, sustainable agriculture, microfinance, housing, healthcare, and education.
It will also promote environmental, social and governance (ESG) uptake within investments decisions, mobilize capital towards sustainable development initiatives and promote the achievement of sustainable development goals.
Key speakers at the summit include Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), UN-Habitat, and Embassy of Costa Rica and Nairobi Giovanna Valverde Stark, Regional Principal Officer, Climate Change and Green Growth Program of the African Development Bank Somorin, Olufunso Adegbenga, Program Manager, Wildlife Conservation Society Fahd Al-Guthmy.
The Annual Africa ESG, Impact Investing & Sustainable Finance Summit-Forums were launched in South Africa in 2015 in cognizance of these risks, especially on the African continent. The Africa forums have been hosted under different banners in several South African and African cities annually bringing together local, continental and global thought leaders, experts, policy makers, institutional investors, researchers, impact investors, financial institutions, philanthropists, DFI’s, governments and the private sector to address the promotion and incorporation of ESG considerations into investment decisions, mobilize and promote the deployment of capital into Impact Investing in the continent, champion sustainable finance initiatives, and create awareness on impacts of climate change with the objective to lead the way towards promoting climate adaptation and mitigation.
