Amr El-Kady, Regional Director for Egypt, Middle East and Africa Plastic Bank, said the bank collected about 150 million plastic bottles in 2021 and there are 800 garbage collectors – affiliated to the bank – working in five governorates.
He noted that the garbage collectors have e-wallets through which they get periodical incentives and join a life insurance system.
During the 12th Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainable Development (12th CSR Forum), he said the Plastic Bank aims to recycle collected garbage in addition to securing jobs, especially for garbage collectors and forming a unified electronic data base. Garbage collectors get financial incentives from the bank.
The Plastic Bank seeks to protect the environment through re-using resources, protecting the rights of the coming generations for clean energy, and eliminating pollution of plastic products.
He expected the amount of plastic waste will be doubled in comparison with the previous year.
He added that the bank will expand its activities in Upper Egypt governorates next year.
