UNESCO and the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs will co-organize a special event under the theme “Girls’ education: a force for gender equality and lasting change” on the occasion of the International Day of the Girl.
The event – due to be held in Cameroon – will feature good practices, perspectives and testimonials from invited guests, including young leaders who will demonstrate how girls’ education is a force for lasting change.
The interactive event will include the award ceremony for the UNESCO Prize for Girls’ and Women’s Education, a roundtable discussion and audience engagement activities.

The International Day of the Girl is celebrated every year on 11 October. The day provides an occasion to celebrate girls—who they are today and the women they will become tomorrow. On this day, UNESCO promotes girls’ empowerment and the fulfillment of girls’ rights, and highlight persistent needs and challenges that require concerted action.
